Rene Lequin-Colin La Comme, Santenay Premier Cru 2009
Ranked among the best Santenay La Comme wines, Rene Lequin-Colin La Comme, Santenay Premier Cru 2009 is an approachable Burgundy, at a surprisingly affordable price.
Found on the shelves of our local wine shop one might pause when one sees a premier cru retailing for under $30 bucks! Marked at $26.95 (CAD) this bottle was quickly snached up and bundled safley home where it could be appreciated (and revered) appropriately. Rene Lequin-Colin La Comme, Santenay Premier Cru 2009 has all the hallmarks of a solid pinot noir; round, full and beautifully balanced, that signature dark cherry taste, a hint of barnyard rot, and yet a surprisingly humble finish.
Produced in Santenay, the most southerly tip of France’s Burgundy region, reds of the appellation lean more rustic than refined, with traces of violet and licorice due to the large deposits of marlstone in the terrior. La Comme is a large premier cru vineyard based on shallow gravelly clay, causing the vines to struggle and concentrate their efforts on fruit growth, resulting in highly acidic grapes that lead to balanced wines and award winning quality.
Rene Lequin-Colin La Comme, Santenay Premier Cru 2009 ranks a substantial 87/100 on the Gypsy Scorecard. It’s a wine worth watching for and a big Burgundy value. Pair with… a good beef stew, roasted chicken, or a creamy, rich gratin dish loaded with cream and cheese. To my mind, Pinot Noir is one of the best food pairing wines, with everything from barbecue to hearty salad; it’s hard to go wrong with a good pinot.
