Blason de Bourgogne Crémant de Bourgogne Brut
Think pink for Valentine’s Day. Busting bubbles and toasted yeast yield to the undertone of red berries in Blason de Bourgogne Crémant de Bourgogne Brut. Endearingly romantic, slightly sophisticated, and decidedly non-snobby.
Continuing our Valentines Day Wino Wednesday romance theme; we’ve been busy popping corks in the interest of research and romance. (The things we do, honestly!) We started with the budget-friendly Domaine Désiré Petit Cremant du Jura Rosé Brute ($22.95 CAD). Staying at the same price point, we up the ante with a stunning sparkling that may well sway champagne lovers away from the region forever.
A golden rose stunner, the Blason de Bourgogne Crémant de Bourgogne Brut ($22.95 CAD) boasts a bigger bite and a gorgeous, fizzy froth. The nose takes time to open, revealing a soft candy-floss aroma under the biscuit that first strikes you. The bubbles travel straight and true, with little variance, the mark of solid fermentation.
Strawberry and cherry are it’s two defining flavour notes, and yet Blason de Bourgogne Crémant de Bourgogne Brut is anything but sweet. Dry and complex, there is a certain longing quality, like being in the arms of a long-lost-lover, feeling their breath on your neck, their skin against your skin.
It’s a French thing…
Hailing from Burgundy, it’s blend is 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Gamay leaves you with a 12% alcohol residual, and another sound investment in passion. Blason de Bourgogne Crémant de Bourgogne Brut, Gypsy Scorecard: 87/100.
Pair with a sesame dressed Asian salad, a bite of smoked salmon, beer can chicken (OK, not the height of romance), almond crusted trout, lobster with caper butter (there we go, that’s romance), or a cheese souffle (push yourself, you can do it). The Blason Crémant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé is our new house favorite because it also snuggles up nicely with an all dressed pizza.
That’s my kind of romance. Casual, yet refined. Chin chin.
